Can anyone give advice on the following (we are using EndNote 5)
When referring to an author within the text (using an author-date style)
the advice given in citation manuals such as 'The Chicago manual of
style' is that where the author's name occurs naturally in the sentence,
only the year of publication is given in parentheses
eg This concept is discussed by Jones (1988)
However in Endnote the in text citation is formatted as follows:
This concept is discussed by Jones (Jones 1988)
I can't think of a way to get EndNote to remove, only in the above
example, the author's name within the brackets because usually you would
want the authors name to appear in parentheses as in 'and this is amply
supported by other workers in the field (Brown, 1998; Shapiro 2001)'.
Is it necessary to resort to manual editing of such occurrences (not an
easy feat within a thesis!)
Any advice would be appreciated
Anne
