RTF Default Page Sizes
Author: Duncan Branley    Posted: Thu, 08 Nov 2001 14:41:03 +0000
[Apologies for any cross-posting]

I'm using EndNote 5.0.1 with Word 2000 (SR-1) on a PC.

PROBLEM: When I export references to an RTF file from EndNote the RTF file
is always set to US Letter size (8.5 * 11 inches or 21.59 * 27.94 cm). In
Europe and elsewhere we use A4 (21.0 * 29.7 cm) as a standard.

Of course this can be changed within Word, but it is a nuisance to have to.
If I print from within EndNote it uses the system default (A4) - so it does
recognise the system default. I've scoured the manual and the help for
info on RTF and have drawn a blank.

I've checked the MS Word RTF specification (not for the faint-hearted!) and
have found something which might explain it.

RTF settings for paper width and height default to:

Width \paperwN 12,240 twips 8.5 inches
Height \paperhN 15,840 twips 11 inches

(1 twip = 1/20 point or 1/1,440 inch)

This is the size of US Letter page. So I suspect that the RTF creation in
EndNote just accepts the default.

Could someone from the technical side tell me if this supposition is right
- and, if it is, add some way of setting this as an option - or better
defaulting to the system default. I want to be able to set this as a
default for the whole College. If anyone else has any light to shed, I'd
be very pleased to hear from you too.

Thanks.

Duncan
