You mentioned saving and overwriting the APA output style, however, EndNote's default save setting adds the word "Copy" to the modified output style (i.e., APA 6th Copy). It's easy to miss this while quickly clicking OK on the prompts and not notice the changes have been saved to "APA 6th Copy". Unless the word "Copy" is manually deleted prior to saving the output style file, the output style changes will now be saved to a different output style (APA 6h Copy). In turn this means that the output style setting in both EndNote and MS Word must be changed to "APA 6th Copy" the changes will not be operative - which may explain why you are not seeing the modifications.

And it doesn't "overwrite" the original either. Now you have "two" with that name. One in the installation directory and one in the user directory. and I don't have any idea how you know which one t is using. I recommend always renaming so there isn't any confusion.

There is no way to get endnote to automatically take refs from individual chapters and combine them into a separate document. However, EndNoteX4 will automatically create a temporary group when you format or are working on a document and you can use this to your advantage. But first, I assume that you have thought about how you are going to generate a table of contents and table of figure legends for the combined document? Our students routinely just combine the various chapters at the end and then reformat to produce a single document with a combined bibliography at the end. These are long documents with figures, tables etc and we haven't had any real problems as long as figure sizes are sensible or inserted as links rather than embedded. While writing, I suggest that you keep the chapter specific bibliographies until you are ready to generate the final combined document, then just reformat with another style without a bibliography. then when you are ready to prepare the final document, you could open each chapter in turn and tagged or drag the chapter specific temporary group to a specific "refs used in thesis" group in your library. You could add to that group as you open the other chapters. This combined group can then be exported to a separtate RTF document using the style of your choosing. The chapters themselves, using a (Author, Year) format would be formated at the end of the day with a style that produces no bibliography.

Hi everyone I have a related issue: everytime I update the endnote bibliography, the font style changes. Is there any way of "locking" the bibliography font style to a predetermined one? It is really annoying to have the text style always reverting. Best regards

Sounds like something's awry with your template(s). Could you attach the style so folks may take a look? Otherwise provide images of the style's 1) Citation templates, 2) Bibliography templates, and Footnote templates. The three may be accessed through the EndNote toolbar: EDIT, OUTPUT STYLES, EDIT [Name of style].

You need to use word to insert the footnote then insert the citation in the footnote. Then in the footnotes template of your of your output style, make sure you have unticked the "include citations in bibliography", does that solve your problem?

Have you made sure that the underlying "normal" font of the word document you are working on, is the font that you really want to be used?

Hi, I have the same problem here... need one format like this: [ref] <autor>. "<title>", <journal>, vol. <volume-issue>, <month year>, <pages>. Example: [BER01] Bergamaschi, R. A.; Bhattacharya, S.; Wagner, R.; Fellenz, C.; Muhlada, M.; White, F.; Daveau, J. M.; Lee, W. R. "Automating the design of SOCs using cores". IEEE Design and Test of Computers, vol. 18-5, Set-Out 2001, pp. 32 -45. Tks in advance !

Try this output style ("BracketStyle.ens") made in EndNote X4 and tested in MS Word 2010. As noted by a prior posting, the "Label" field is used in the bibliography template to accommodate the 3-letters of the author name(s) followed by the 2-digit year: BER01. (See Image1 for a sample of the reference type and corresponding data fields.) A drawback of using the Label field in the bibliography template is the field length seems to affect the proper alignment of the hanging indent. (See Image2 for the example and correction.) However, this is easily corrected by either: 1) Placing the cursor on the second line of the reference then pressing the TAB key; or 2) Modifying the paragraph setting in MS Word's "Style" template (instructions are noted on the BracketStyle.ens file).

I have seen similar requirements come up recently and would like to learn more about this to see if we can add something to EndNote in the future to help automate this. Does this formatting style have a name? Are there formal guidelines published anywhere? In the meantime, I am fairly sure the EndNote API could be used to write a plug-in that parses through the Author and Year fields, copies out the required data and pastes it into to Label field. If anyone is interested in trying this, let me know and I will try to have someone be available to answer some more technical questions. Jason Rollins, the EndNote team

Just select it and move it. It will stay in the new position.

Thank you very much. It works great :) You just have to make sure you select the whole bibliography (in my case an extra paragraph before and after the bibliography) Best regards, Panela

What output style are you using? Assuming that the format follows the style guidelines for your discipline or publication: 1. Enter the info in the reference type's URL field as: EndNote, URL: www.endnote.com Note: The underlining can be removed in MS Word by modifying the Styles template. 2. Enter the date info in the reference type's Access Date field as: [Access Date = 06/16/2011]

You just need to add a ` character infront of the the URL word that you want to remain as text and not be replaced by the field itself.
