switching form e-mail list to web forum
Author: Francesco Dell'Orso    Posted: Mon, 5 May 2008 18:49:46 -0400
Good morning all:
the 7th of May is approaching and I've gathered that this e-mail list
will not be working any longer due to Thompson Reuters' decision.
I have followed -and sometimes contributed to- this e-mail list for more
than 10 years now. RSS or web forum are not a valid alternative for me,
also accustomed to receive the messages as one digest/bundle per day.
That way I got only one message per day, easily browsable after just one
quick on-line connection; I had the possibility to discard and keep only
the relevant messages. I considered that fast, clean, simple, fairly
'ecological'.
I admit I don't see how I could replicate these functionalities within
the web forum.
I think I'll stop following the web forum and the discussion concerning
EndNote.

Dear Fransesco,

To stay connected to the forum, you could use such a tool that forward
RSS feeds to email like

rss2email.infogami.com/
http://www.rss2mail.be/start

Another option is to use an email client that may get RSS feeds like
Thunderbird, Apple Mail or Outlook 2007

Thanks for your contribution and your work with PBMS.

Yours

Patrice Chalon

Hello Francesco,

You should be able to set up the web Forums to do exactly what you're describing, to send a single email each day, easily browsable after just one quick on-line connection. To do so, follow these instructions:

Subscribing to a Board to receive emails of new posts on the forum:
1) Click on the board you want to subscribe to, "EndNote General"
for example
2) Go to "Board Options > Add This Board to My Subscriptions"
3) Go to "My Profile > Subscriptions & Bookmarks"
4) Select the E-Mail Delivery option you want
Immediate - each post will be sent as a separate email Daily Digest - receive one email per day that contains all posts Weekly Digest - receive one email per week that contains all posts
5) If you want to view the contents of the post change "Content
Format" to "Subject and Body"
Note that you can not reply to the email, you would need to click on the link in the email to the post and reply on the forum.

For your request, you'd want to choose "Daily Digest". This way, you wouldn't need to muck about with RSS feeds, the forums themselves provide direct email feeds instead.
