Openurl- how to configure two openurl paths
Author: Sameer Badarudeen    Posted: Wed, 21 Feb 2007 14:20:27 -0500
I have access to two university libraries. Sometimes certain online
journals are not available in one library, and I may find those in the
other library. Does anyone knows how to configure two openurl links in
endnote.

I had asked this question about a month back, looks like now I have a
work around.
Google scholar lets you add "library links" so if you can add the
libraries you have subscription to to google scholar, then my tip might
be useful for you, in endnote openurl preferences just add the following
as Openurl path enter http://scholar.google.com/scholar as arguments
enter ?&as_q=ATITLE&as_sauthors=AULAST&as_publication=TITLE

now when you hit openurl link from any reference it will take you to the
google scholar link showing the article you want, from there, you can
click the library link and get the article you want.

For those who dont have google library link for their library, you can
use firefox extension 'openurl referrer" here
http://openly.oclc.org/openurlref/

thanks

Re: Openurl- how to configure multiple openurl paths

A few weeks ago someone suggested the following for getting OpenURL Link
to work with Google Scholar, which I would find really useful. However,
it doesn't work for me: when I configure Endnote as suggested, Google
Scholar
says:

"Your search - ATITLE author:AULAST - did not match any articles
published in TITLE."

In other words, Endnote is not passing the article title and author name
to Google Scholar, but is passing "ATITLE" and "AULAST" through instead.

Has anyone else encountered this, and are you aware of a fix?

Thanks,

Alex

Sorry to learn about your problem, Could you tell me which version you
are using, I tried it in Endnote X and its working perfectly. Also make
sure that you cut and paste the arguments to endnote
?&as_q=ATITLE&as_sauthors=AULAST&as_publication=TITLE

RE: Openurl- how to configure multiple openurl paths

Thanks for your reply. I'm using Endnote 7, on a PC (Windows XP). I have
been very careful to paste the arguments in exactly as below, but it
still doesn't work. I've also tried modifying them (e.g. ending after
ATITLE), but that doesn't work either. It's very weird, as OpenURL does
work with the default ISI link (but that doesn't have local library
links, so is not as useful as Google Scholar).

Perhaps it's an Endnote 7 thing. I keep on meaning to upgrade to Endnote
X, so perhaps it's time I did that...

Thanks,

Alex

Alex, can you mail me the working arguments, I mean the one you had
before you attempted the google scholar one.
