Hello,
I'm a new user of Endnote version 6.0 on my Inspiron 4150 running Windows
(and Word) XP. I'm currently using the trial version (I don't know if this
makes a difference) because I thought it would be wise to see how the
program functioned for me with one round of course papers before I
purchased it. So far I'm very much inclined to save my hundred bucks and
find some other software that actually works with XP! I've read much about
the compatibility issues and I seem to have resolved the "memory leak" that
was causing Word to crash every few minutes by making the adjustments
suggested in the FAQ on Endnote's site. But I am continuing to have
problems with two other major issues.
(1) I am unable to edit footnotes created by Endnote. I can enter the field
and make changes (for example adding specific page numbers, etc), but once
I leave the footnote and begin working elsewhere in the document, the field
reverts and the citation is a mess. This is particularly a problem with
multiple citations in a single footnote, which appear with a large space,
an isolated comma, and then more space between the two citations. When I
try to enter the "short citation" to make changes before all the reference
information appears in the footnote, Word/Endnote won't allow me to do so
at all.
(2) For diacritical marks, em dashes, and other "unusual" characters, I
have macros programmed in Word to save on keystrokes. Although they still
appear to be programmed when I go to the insert symbols menu in Word, they
have ceased to function ever since I installed Endnote on my machine.
Any help or information that others could provide to alleviate these
problems would be greatly appreciated.
Regards,
Heather Tidrick
