the library file can only be openned in the write mode, by one user at a time. If it is write protected (ie Read Only) multiple users can access it at the same time. Thus, we have two versions of our libraries. One in a read only folder, which anyone can use, and the other in a read/write folder that authorized users can add to (but only one at a time). Each evening, the write version folder is copied to the read only folder automatically by a script our IT people prepared.

Thank you for your help! So there´s no way, that more paople can implement data into the data base? That´s not very usefull - we are on the way to create a new system in our library. That means a lot of work and that would be good to be shared of more people at one time. In Munich it´s late so I say good night!

We apply the settings to the whole folder. No -- an endnote library is one entity, like a word document. -- It would be nice, but for the purpose of multi-users accessing the library at the same time, I have heard that Ref Manager might be a better choice?

In Reference Manager, simultaneous read/write access works. However, with Reference Manager you can't assign user roles, i.e. grant read/write access to some users and read-only access to others.

You may want to consider using EndNote Web's group sharing feature. You can assign read-only and read/write priviledges per user on a group level. Each license of EndNote X3 can register for an EndNote Web account with two year access. - Mathilda, the EndNote team

"In Reference Manager, simultaneous read/write access works. However, with Reference Manager you can't assign user roles, i.e. grant read/write access to some users and read-only access to others." You can assign read write access to some users and read only to others by making use of an RMACCESS folder and setting the different permissions on that folder

"You can assign read write access to some users and read only to others by making use of an RMACCESS folder and setting the different permissions on that folder" Do ou mean this for Ref Manager or EndNote?
