PubMed URLs
Author: K H    Posted: Thu, 27 Mar 2008 19:06:50 -0400
Dear All,

I suspect there is no way round this, but I would be delighted to be
proved wrong, if anyone has found a way!

One of my students searches PubMed through EndNote (we have version 9).
When she does, URLs to the PubMed record are put into each EndNote
record.

If she searches PubMed and imports the references, those URLs are not
present.

I think the URLs are to a PubMed search - they do not seem to be present
in an actual PubMed record.

I have worked out how to construct a URL, to put into a record, but that
does mean editing each record. Our question is: is there a way to
import those URLs, if you are importing references from PubMed?

Thanks in advance,

Keith

Hello,

We can in "Change Fields" in "Accession number" Change "Insert before field's text" and write " http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/" (accession number is PMID)

And after "move fields" from accession number to URL.

Best regards

PubMed URLs
Author: K H    Posted: Fri, 4 Apr 2008 19:46:44 -0400
Dear All,

I recently emailed to ask if anyone knew how to put PubMed URLs into
EndNote records that have been imported as a text file from PubMed.

Thank you to Bengt Edhlund, Alicia Livinski (NIH), and to Pascale
Sejournant (INIST) for their suggestions. Bengt Edhlund's book
"PubMed and EndNote" has details of how to put the URLs back, by
exporting the references and reimporting them, although I have not tried
this.

Here is what you can do, combining information from Alicia and from
Pascale.

Select the references that you want to modify.
Select References -> Change and Move Fields Select Move Fields Change
>From to Accession Number, and To to URL Select Replace Entire Field
Click OK

Then, select those references again
Select References -> Change and Move Fields Select Change Fields Change
In to URL Select Insert Before Field's Text Into the box put
http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/
Untick Include a space after the new text

This constructs a URL that links to that item.

Before doing this, you should know that there is no undo option in
EndNote!

I had worked out how to do this one record at a time, but not to a set
of records all at once.

Thanks to all,

Keith
