Import Filters for OVID Medline
Author: Jim Jonas    Posted: Wed, 03 Mar 2004 11:19:46 -0600
I have someone who does searches in OVID Medline but cannot do their
searches on a machine with EndNote (and therefore cannot use OVID's
direct export function). Medline allows the user to save text files in
either BRS/Tagged OR Reprint/Medlars formats, however I cannot find
filters that will work with either of these. I understand these filters
do exist. Any ideas where I may find them?
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks, Jim

I save citations as "complete reference" in Reprint/Medlars format and
import them into EndNote using the Medline (Ovid) filter that came with
the software (v. 5). You can also find it on the filters page at
EndNote
(http://www.endnote.com/support/enfilters.asp?SORT=1&PLAT=0&PAGE=11&METH
=0&DATAPROV=none).

RE: Import Filters for OVID Medline

Jim,
The EndNote 7 filter MEDLINE (OVID) will work to import Medline records
saved in the Reprint/Medlars format. There is no filter that will work with
the BRS/Tagged format.

I have created a filter that works with the MEDLINE default format (i.e. the
one you get when you select Ovid from the Citation Format column). You can
download it from the following site:
http://www.library.ualberta.ca/guides/endnote/index.cfm.

Hope that helps,

Jim:

When you save records (or email them) in Medline OVID using the
Reprint/Medlars format, you can then import them into EndNote using the
Medline(OVID) filter. I know it sounds odd, but the Medline(OVID) filter
cannot import records saved in the OVID format in Medline, but instead
works great with those saved in the Reprint/Medlars format, but it is true.
