in-text citation problem

I have a user here who wishes his in-text citation to appear as follows:
...another study gave similar results (Smith, 2001)...
...another study by Smith (2001)...
The first form is possible as an EndNote style but what he wants to do with
the second form is have EndNote insert the 'Smith' as well as the date.
When he tries to create his own style, or edit the Harvard style, a
residual comma appears after the name.
Does anyone know a way to create such a style?
He has been able to achieve this result only by inserting two references
(an author-only citation, an opening bracket, a year-only citation and a
closing bracket).
regards,
Bernie

I don't know that your user can achieve the result they desire, in
the manner they desire. As you no doubt know, the way EndNote achieves the
second result is:
>>...another study by Smith [, 2001 #84]...i.e. with the author's name
>>removed{} which when formatted appears as:
>>...another study by Smith (2001)....
cheers,

A solution would be: just type the author's name yourself and
remove the author's name from the formatted citation.
About the last action the EndNote4 manual (p. 205) says:
"To remove the author from the formatted citation, delete just
the author's name from the unformatted citation. Note that the
comma remains in the temporary citation to indicate the
omission of the author."
