My first impression: disappointment !   I'm really disappointed of ENX3 ! There is no big changes compared with X2 ! While browsing the suggestions posted elsewhere on these pages, there are many very useful suggested improvments but they were not taken in account in the new version ! For exemple, I don't know why "Thombsons" still insist not to include a personal evaluation system (i,e. staring) into Endnote ! Is this something complicated ?  At least, they can do it customizable, so those who want to use it, they can  !

I don't think star rating articles is useful for me (no offense, just my opinion). I have custom fields that tell about importance/uniquness about the article, like "good review" "must read ASAP" "good for next journal club" "interesting" "good method" "read at leisure" etc etc, but simple star numbers don't tell me about the importance or uniqueness of each article.

This what exactly staring does ! Instead of writing all these words, just select, one , two, ....or  5 stars and you get it !

Well, I don't need to type all words, because they are all in my custom term list. When I type m, EN automatically type "must read ASAP" for me. When I type n, it automatically shows "next journal club". So, instead of choosing number of stars from drop down menu, and have such colum multiple of them, I like single field take care all of these.   Now, what is really convenient for me is to have an ability to edit field data without opening each reference. Then, I can click on the reference and field in the list window, and directly edit the contents, like typing just "m" automatically changing to "must read ASAP". It is something like entering (recurring) data into each cell in Excel.   Right now, EN has multi-line data in each field, so accomplishing that change is difficult. But I think Thomson may be workind toward such direction.

OK, installation was not straight forward (Vista 32bit, Office 2007, from X1 to X3) and I had to reinstall several times because the ribbon got lost several times after the first start, the cwyw COM Add-in was lost as well and I could not add it manually, etc.  Anyhow, now it seems to work (and I hope it stays that way).   Best improvement over anything else: muuuuuch faster!! :smileyhappy:   Another improvement (imho) is that online retrieved data (say from Web of Science) is not generally added (preventing doublets).   I don't really use or like the groups.  Maybe it's my field or the particular workstyle, but they don't seem to make my life much easier.  So no big progress here (at least for me).   Online access to Web of Science is still only working sometimes.  I know that this is a problem of the proxy on our campus, which needs manual login from a webpage (which I do via IE before moving to Endnote). It would be nice if you could auto-fill this information from within Endnote  (like the feature that also does not work on the iPhone ;) ).  Anyway, whenever the web-proxy resets the connections and asks for new authentication, I only realize that via time out errors.   And finally a thing which is still not resolved:  is there a way to use the same given/family name pattern for search in my own database and in the online query?  In my own database I use somethinge like "Doe JA" while the Web of Science interface wants something like "J.A. Doe".  Is there a way to somehow unify that?   ote
