David,

1. Mark your citations or save to the clipboard; you want to choose "Medline" format from the list

2. Send to "file" and save on your computer (the desktop is a handy place); it will be a .txt file

3. Open up your Endnote library and go to File>Import

4. For "import option" browse to PubMed (under other filters)

5. For Import data file: browse to your .txt file on the desktop

6. Click import

Here's a link to an online tutorial: http://healthlinks.washington.edu/howto/endnote/tutorial/

David,

Here is a guide I created to show how to import files into EndNote 9
from several different databases we use. PubMed uses the Manual
Importing feature. Start on page 3, then go to page 2.

There is a Windows version
pdf
http://www.scripps.edu/library/open/instruction/endnote9importing.pdf
Word
http://www.scripps.edu/library/open/instruction/endnote9importing.doc

And a MAC version
pdf
http://www.scripps.edu/library/open/instruction/endnote9importingmac.pdf
Word
http://www.scripps.edu/library/open/instruction/endnote9importingmac.doc

Feel free to use or link to them for training purposes.

When I was using Endnote5 it was easy. Now even I face problems
sometimes with PubMed.
But why not use the Endnote connection file to down load references from
PubMed - it's a cinch.

However, if you want to download from PubMed. This is how it works [If
the headers are copied correctly from PubMed - this is not in our
control]

1. Make sure that the display is in text while in the PubMed search.
2. Mark the records and save as text file [the files should have an
extension .txt]
3. While in Endnote use the import command and choose the Import Option
as 'PubMed(NLM)' and the location/name of the text file.
4. This should work if the Headers were copied during the download
process.

/Jack

Lately, I have noticed that the downloaded references from PubMed when I
try to import into Endnote, only one reference is imported while that
others are still lying dormant.

I am following the exact steps pertaining to 'saving' from PubMed.
Can anyone shed light on the technicality here.

Thanks.

Virginia Carden's suggestion to update PubMed filter file worked {Thanks
Virginia).
Wish to thank Bruce White, Patricia Chalon and others who gave their
valuable suggestion.

And many thanks to ISI ResearchSoft for bringing up this group together.
I learned many things by just reading comments/suggestions from the
group. On Friday I conducted a session on EndNote which was
overwhelmingly appreciated. I owe it all to this group.

Jack:

I think your problem is that you do not have the latest PubMed filter.
I've attached it so you don't need to go looking for. See if that
works, if not let me know and maybe I can figure out what's happening.

(See attached file: PubMed (NLM).enf)
