Two-computer disaster
Author: Marti Wolfe    Posted: Mon, 24 Jul 2006 14:06:20 -0400
I moved some Endnote & libraries and the Word documents I was working on
from my iBook to my G4, only to discover that Endnote and Word were not
on speaking terms on the G4 and the Endnote manual wasn't very
forthcoming about how to fix that (just about how to get CWYW into the
Word folder or something).

So, it being after 5 PM PDT, and the folks at ISI in Berkeley being
presumably unavailable, I just moved the library and the Word docs back
to the iBook.

I had made a bunch of updates to an important Endnote library during its
brief sojourn on the G4, but when I tried to open it up on the iBook, it
said "end of file error" and after trying Recover Library, the Finder
revealed that I was trying to recover a library with zero kb.
Eeeeekk!!!

Also, the Endnote-not-talking-to-Word problem seems to have migrated in
retrograde fashion from the G4 back to the iBook!

So, if fortune smiles on me, this extremely critical library into which
I put about 20 hours of manual updates over the weekend, still resides
intact on the G4 (and nowhere else).

However, fortune does not, as a habit, smile on me.

So I'm inclined to do nothing else at all until informed by some fairly
authoritative source that I am not in fact completely doomed.

thanx
marti
