Editing citations in footnotes

I'm wondering if anyone can help me with the following problem?

I have footnotes where, for example, the unformatted version looks like
this:

Robin Attfield says in {Attfield, 1983 #229}
=20
When I format the citation it looks like this:
=20
Robin Attfield says in Robin Attfield, "Christian attitudes to nature,"
Journal of the History of Ideas 44.
=20
Obviously I don't want the name repeated twice so I've tried
unformatting the citation and deleting the name so that it looks like
this:
=20
Robin Attfield says in {, 1983 #229}
=20
But when I click on the "Format Bibliography" button in Word EndNote
reformats the citation in exactly the same way as before with the name
present even though the author field is absent from the unformatted
citation. I know the "exclude author" check box on the Edit Citation
menu doesn't work for footnotes so I've done it manually. I've also
tried using different output styles but the outcome is the same.

Any suggestions?

This is one of the limitations of footnote styles. The only way to remove
the author's name is to delete it from the formatted document when doing
your final editing.
An alternative approach is to rephrase the footnote. So instead of:
Robin Attfield says in {Attfield, 1983 #229}
You could write:
As stated by {Attfield, 1983 #229}
