Subject: question on numbering of citations
hello. i would like to ask if anyone knows how to manipulate the
numbering generated by endnote so that if i need to start from number
say 52 and not 1 and go on w. the numbering. this happened to me =
because
i coauthor a chapter and the other person does not use endnote and his
part is before mine! so i am stuck. any suggestions? tina papoutsakis

I don't think you can do this within EndNote, but it is quite easy in your
final version of the work after you have stripped out the EN field codes.
Word, for example allows you to start at a defined number, so at the very
least you can un-number and renumber your bibliography. But you would have
then to renumber the in-text citations by hand. So a neater way would be to
create a dummy first section of your document containing 51 (or whatever)
references. After removing the field codes for publication just delete this
section and the irrelevant first 51 refs in your biblio. What is left
should be what you want, but whatever you end up doing test on a copy of
your main document first - both because its good practice whatever you do
and specifically here because you cannot replace the field codes at a later
stage.
