Make sure there are no spaces between the parentheses of the sequential inserted refs. That is do a search and replace characters ")<space>(" with the charcters ")(". You might have to turn off some auto paste settings to achieve this when inserting new refs. I would also suggest you use the more unique curly brackets rather than plain brackets and avoid endnote from looking at other parenthetical insertions which aren't refs?

Many thanks. I have had more of a play and followed your advice. I am now acheiving what I need to acheive. I have also returned the perentheses to the curly ones.
