Hi
A customer asked me today if there was a way to keep EndNote from adding
the references after the article while writing the article. I thought
that turning off instant formatting was the only way that I knew of (or
typing Ctrl + Enter in Word to put references on next page of the
document).
Is there any other way to address the request, and what benefits have
others found in turning off instant formatting?
Have a nice day

John,
I am not sure I know why someone wants to do this, but if you used a
style where there were no "outputs" in the Bibliography templates, I
assume there would be a blank bibliography? Or are they worried that it
should be somewhere else in the document? Once you move it, it will
stay where ever you move it to...

I have always preferred to work without instant formatting:
it is faster (no computer processing involved when adding references)
it is easier to manipulate the reference once you learn the rules:
many people on this list have had difficulty permanently removing the
author from their in-text citation - you can do it manually and easily
without instant formatting
you can easily prepare multiple references
I don't need to see the reference list until I run the bibliography.
As you have mentioned, the other way to address this request is to place
the reference list that builds as you use CWYW, should you wish to use
it, at the end of the document.
As previous people have posted recently, I also believe Endnote needs to
make these rules easier to find - I can't tell you how many times I've
printed this page from the Endnote user guide so colleagues can
manipulate their own references!

Indeed, and this can be done either per document (in the Instant
Formatting tab of CWYW's Format Bibliography command) or globally from
the General tab in CWYW's prefs. But also note that Instant Formatting
does not work with manually typed temp citations.

Hi,
I often teach my graduate students about turning this off because when
you have a lengthy bibliography (100+ references) as many dissertators
do, it tends to slow things down in the word processor.
