I am having some trouble importing citations from google scholar.
Imports for books are fine, but journal articles are read as "acient
texts" and the journal name is not imported.

Hello,
Have you updated to EndNote X.0.2?
It is supposed to fix the problem.
From Endnote.com support:
"Correct reference type assignments- "Journal" and others are no longer
interpreted as "Ancient Text" (Windows)"

See:
http://steenbock.library.wisc.edu/instruct/endnote/EndNote_Google.htm
Note: If your record is imported into the Ancient Text Reference Type
you need the revised Generic Endnote Import filter. This is available
for download at http://www.endnote.com/support/enfilters.asp. Click on
FTP and save it to your EndNote Filters folder.
