"To remove the author's name or date from a citation, simply leave that
information out of the unformatted citation."

This function is governed by the Formatting > Omit Author [...] option
in Preferences. See details and examples under "Omitting Authors or
Years from Citations" in ch. 10 of the User's Guide.

Dear Janet,

This is well documented in the Endnote help. See "Omitting Authors or
Years from Citations (CWYW)" or similar entry in your endnote help.

Basically, you have to only enter {,2004,Smith} or {,2004,#65} instead
of {Smith, 2004}.

Hi,

All you have to do is edit the temporary citation: (Smith, 1776 #
16) => (,1776 # 16).

best wishes,

Peter Mayer

In my EndNote X version, they have you edit the citation. It's on page
77 in the Getting Started guide. Seems a bit clunky.

Hello,

Insert your citation then go to "Edit Citation." Choose "Exclude
Author."
You should get:
According to Smith (2004)
