I have solved the problems about the connection between word and EN7 by
reinstalling the program. But the RTF document scan does not work with
word x and OS 10.2. It works from EN when I use the example (Paelo.rtf)
but not with my own rtf files. The program does not do anything when I
open them. Is there something extra with the file or does not EN
recognize refs in the format (Johnson, 2004) when APA format is chosen?
The option of addressing En from Word via services is not working
either, the services is available, EN too, but the choices (find,
insert and scan) are grayed. What is wrong?
I guess the point with the rtf document scan is that it should be able
to find references in the document provided they have the correct
format?

You need to replace the parenthesis with curly or brackets, whichever
you have chosen as the temporary citation characters in Endnote
preferences (Edit>preferences). You could change the citation character
in endnote to parentheses, but that usually is less satisfactory, as
they are used for other purposes, less so the curly brackets.

In your RTF document, the references must be inserted in the EndNote
temporary format, e.g.
{Smith, 1993 #1266}.
To do this, select the reference in EndNote, use the Edit>Copy command, then
go to your document and paste the reference at the appropriate location
using Edit>Paste.
You don't select the output style (e.g. APA 5th) until you begin the
scanning process in EndNote, by clicking on Tools>RTF Document Scan.
