I couldn't find the LID tag in a pubmed record.  Do you mind giving a few PMIDs so I can test the new filter?

Hi again!   I'm getting a little confused now. Checking the following new references (PMID):   20068215 20068213 20064377  The AID tag is used.    I wonder if the LID tag is used for online only references. Looking at the examples I've found they all seem to be without normal page number and PubMed display the DOI number in the Summary Display. This is not done for "normal" articles even though they have a DOI number if I check the Medline Display.   Anyway, the filter I have attached have retained instructions for the AID tag in addition to the new LID tag, so the filter should handle both types.   Does anyone know the reason for the LID tag (compared to the AID tag)?   Best wishes   Jan Ove

A quick check shows that BMJ seems to use the LID for the DOI field as far back as 2008 in my random check.  2007 are the last ones that come up in my search that have the DOI mapping correctly in a pubmed search with my current "connect" file.    I don't know how many other journals may have other similar idiosyncratic assignments?

Thanks, Leanne!   I found another title (Drugs):   PMID- 20108993 OWN - NLM STAT- In-Data-Review DA - 20100129 IS - 0012-6667 (Print) IS - 0012-6667 (Linking) VI - 70 IP - 2 DP - 2010 TI - Trastuzumab: A Review of its Use as Adjuvant Treatment in Human Epidermal Growth Factor Receptor 2 (HER2)-Positive Early Breast Cancer. PG - 215-39 LID - 10.2165/11203700-000000000-00000 [doi]   What is interesting is that the references that uses the LID tag have the DOI number in the summary display (se below):   Trastuzumab: A Review of its Use as Adjuvant Treatment in Human Epidermal Growth Factor Receptor 2 (HER2)-Positive Early Breast Cancer. Garnock-Jones KP, Keating GM, Scott LJ. Drugs. 2010;70(2):215-39. doi: 10.2165/11203700-000000000-00000.PMID: 20108993 [PubMed - in process]   I will try to find more titles, but a new filter and connection file will probably be a good thing for those wanting all DOI's.   Best wishes   Jan Ove

Here's how NLM defines the difference between LID and AID:   http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/bookshelf/br.fcgi?book=helppubmed&part=pubmedhelp#pubmedhelp.Publisher_Identifier   I don't know if this is helpful or not.

Thanks for the info!   Here is the definitions:   Location ID [LID] The DOI or publisher ID that serves the role of pagination to locate an online article.   Article Identifier [AID] Includes article identifiers submitted by journal publishers such as doi (digital object identifier). These data are typically used for generating LinkOut links.   It seems that the LID number is used when a online article lacks normal pagination (?). It seems that the use of this tag is controlled by the publishers when they submitt data to Pubmed.   I've found the LID tag is used also for some articles in Journal of Clinical Investigation and Pharmacoeconomics.   Anyway, it seems from this that it is neccessary to "program" the PubMed Connection filter and Import filter for the AID tag to be sure to get all DOI numbers.   I haven't checked how the situation is for the different Medline filters - if there is two different tags used in the export files for these too.   Best wishes   Jan Ove

Well, here is my new PubMed Connect file. Please put it thru its paces and let me know if I missed anything?

Looking good, Leanne, but don't you need to include:   LID -    {IGNORE} [pii]   to remove the pii number, which also uses the LID tag?   :)    Jan Ove
