Actually, that's easy -- the PubMed entry does contain it, so all one
needs to do is modify the PubMed (NLM) import filter; for instance, by
redirecting "TA" to "Notes", and adding a row directing the "JT" tag to
"Journal".
The problem is that the unabbreviated name may not be such a boon. For
instance, what would you rather have in the "Journal" field -- "Consult
Pharm", or, "The Consultant pharmacist : the journal of the American
Society of Consultant Pharmacists"? I, for one, vote for the former...

Was that a troll? Actually journal abbreviations are infrequently used
now in the environmental sciences at least, and have in my opinion
created more work and uncertainty for researchers and librarians
tracking literature than the savings in length of bibliographies could
possibly compensate for. An archaic pre-computer-age tradition that is
no longer relevant - at least for formal publication - we will always
use acronyms and ad hoc shorthand of journal names for the everyday
exchanges with our co-workers.
There are some spectacularly lengthy journal titles in 19thC biology.
Great fun.
An acquaintance once asked a librarian for an interloan from the journal
ibid. A story she told against herself.

Of course. Check out my other posts, trolling is all I do.

That may be true, but this was PubMed. And section IV.A.9.b of ICMJE's
"Uniform Requirements..." states:
"The titles of journals should be
abbreviated according to the style used in
Index Medicus."
