I am building up my library and have had no difficulty finding citations for
journal
articles via PUBMED. However, the problem starts once I need to reference
medical
books, UNICEF and WHO publications, etc. (for example, UNICEF's State of the
World's
Children 2001: Early Childhood).
Obviously PUBMED does not have citations for these type of publications and
I can't
seem to get access to any of the library catalogs listed. Could someone
please guide
me regarding other sources which are free to access for full public
health/medical-related citations.
Thanks in advance,
Naila

Naila,
The most comprehensive collection of health and medical publications is the
U.S. National Library of Medicine (NLM). The library catalogue is available
as an online database called Locatorplus available at
http://locatorplus.gov/. Unfortunately, Locatorplus does not support
z39.50, and therefore cannot be searched using a connection file in EndNote.
Anything you locate in this database you'd have to enter into EndNote
manually or by cutting and pasting.
However, the library catalogues of major universities with medical and
health programs will contain many of the materials you needs. I am
emailing from home and don't have EndNote installed here, so I can't
remember all the connection files that are available, but I would suggest
going through the list of available connection files and selecting those for
major universities with med schools, e.g. Johns Hopkins, Yale, etc. I know
my own institution has a fairly comprehensive collection of medical/health
materials (including WHO and UNICEF docs -- although I don't guarantee our
collection is complete) as do the library catalogues for other Canadian
universities with med schools (University of British Columbia, McGill
University, Dalhousie University, McMaster University, Queens University,
University of Manitoba, and University of Toronto just to mention a few.
Please note, the University of Toronto has recently switched its online
catalogue interface, and the connection file that comes with EndNote will
not work with the new catalogue. An updated filter for the University of
Toronto Library is available from the EndNote support page at
http://www.endnote.com/support/enconnections.asp.
Others on this listserv can probably suggest comprehensive medical/health
collections in their own countries for which an EndNote connection file is
available.
Hope that helps,

Hello Naila-
My best guess would be to try the Library of Congress from the US Govt. It
should be free access, and should have just about any sort of book reference
etc. I have not checked on the papers you are requesting in particular, but
when I have looked for health related books at the LoC, I have not had
trouble finding them.
Hope this helps
