It's time to change to Unicode!
Over the years, with much effort, I've built libraries with transliterated
Arabic and Turkish citations. Of course these were unreadable unless you had
the particular font I've used.
Now, with Unicode, we can standardize. So I want to change all £, for
example to the unicode i-with-a-macron over it. I have fonts, I have
keyboards, but how do I go about doing these global conversions for say,
2000 entries, with £'s in (potentially) every field?
I'd be VERY grateful for advice.
Thanks
Kevin Reinhart

In endnote 8 (which you're obviously using) the dialog boxes also support unicode. Therefore, you can use the Edit/Change Text... feature to find and replace individual characters and replace them with a unicode character.
So: go Edit / Change Text...
In the dialog box that appears,
- ensure the top drop-down box reads "all fields"
- type the sequence you want to replace (e.g. £) in the upper ("search for") box
- CLEAR the check mark for "match [sc. whole] words"
- type the sequence you want to insert (not sure if I can give an e.g. in this message, but here goes: Æ)
- press [Change]
If you've formatted other languages in your different fonts *within* endnote, then you may have to change your "symbol" etc. fonts to a unicode font (e.g. Arial Unicode MS) which will cope with all the characters; otherwise, you might need to export your library as xml and find/replace (in a text editor) all references to your different font namess to Arial Unicode MS.
