The easiest way I have found, is to write down your activation and serial numbers (which I assume you still have in an email?) The serial number is in the "about" splash page of the installed version. Then download the "trial version" and activate it from that option. If it was an upgrade copy, you will also need the serial number from the old version (on a CD case or in the manual, or email from that download. Alternatively, if you registered it, a phone call to sales might help you locate the necessary numbers?

Mind you, the current "trial" version is X5, so if you were using an older version and don't want to upgrade, that won't work....

Leanne's helpful as always! A few additions: you can download versions of slightly older installers than X5 on our Frequently Asked Questions page about this topic here. Additionally, here's information about locating your Product Key and serial number information. As mentioned there, if you still cannot find it, the best department to speak to is our Customer Support department. They should be able to assist you further.

EndNote X5 users have the ability to upgrade their EndNote Web account in order to transfer attachments and figures. If you have the Demo version of EndNote X5, you would not be able to do this. If you do have an EndNote Web account, make sure you go to the Edit (or EndNote menu on the Mac) and select Preferences. Click on the EndNote Web option and enter your account credentials. With the Demo software, you will not be able to Activate. Click OK or Save and Close the Preferences screen on the Mac. When you attempt to perform a Transfer using the Tools > EndNote Web command, uncheck the option to "Include File and Figure Attachments." You should still be able to transfer your reference information without the attachments/figures. If you obtain the full version of EndNote X5, you can Activate the Demo. You would then be able to Upgrade your EndNote Web account using the Activate button. To Activate a Demo version of the software, see the following article: http://help.thomson.com/default.asp?portalid=tsc&refid=TS_ENINSTALLFAQ2 Jason Berman Technical Sup Rep RS Thomson Reuters Phone: +1 800-336-4474 thomsonreuters.com

You can find the Change Case file in the following location and you would need to move it to the same location on the new machine. For Windows XP C:\Documents and Settings\User\Application Data\EndNote\ENCase.txt For Windows Vista or Windows 7 C:\Users > your username > AppData > Roaming >\EndNote\ENCase.txt You might also want to move over any custom Reference Types we have those steps on our website: http://www.endnote.com/support/faqs/Interface/faq9.asp Tony Martin Thomson Reuters Tel +1 800 336 4474 http://www.researchsoft.com http://scientific.thomson.com Better Decisions Faster Thomson Reuters and its product names and acronyms used herein are trademarks, service marks, and registered trademarks used under license.
