Questions re. editions

Dear list,
I am using EndNote 8 and would like to have editions of books show up
as "1st edition", "2nd, edition", "3rd ..", 4th ..." , instead of just
"1. edition", "2. edition", "3...", "4...". However, I cannot enter
the suffixes "st", "nd" directly into the database as not all styles
require them. Also sometimes I need to work in German and that would
need different suffixes.
Any ideas would be highly appreciated.
