EndNote 6 Multi-Filter Import Option
Author:    Posted: Thu, 22 Aug 2002 17:31:48 -0400
Hello all,

I am an imtermediate/experienced EndNote user who has been a
silent-watcher on this list for several months and have been paying
close attention to comments about EndNote 6. Now that I have upgraded to
EndNote 6, I am eagerly exploring new features. One I am particulary
interested in is the Multi-Filter Import Option mentioned in the manual.
Unfortunatley I can't get it to work for me. I couldn't find any
messages about it in this list's archive so I will pose my problem to
you.

My colleagues are often performing multi-file searches in Dialog
(Classic Web, or LINK) and have traditionally split results from each
Dialog database into separate tagged text files before importing. I was
hoping the new multi-filter option would eliminate that step. So I read
the manual and tried to set up Database Identifier tags in several of
the filters for Dialog files we use often. (I did this under the
filter's Reference Type preferences.)

The problem is that in Dialog output, both the vendor (Dialog) and the
database name are combined in a single field (FN-, for filename), not
two, as the EndNote instructions require. So I thought maybe I could
just put the same tag & text in both the vendor and database identifier
fields. But this does not work. When I choose the multi-filter option to
import a file of mixed Citations from MEDLINE, EMBASE, BIOSIS & Derwent
Drug file, no citations are imported. I am not getting an error message,
just no citations imported.

Does anyone have a solution or suggestion? Has anyone else successfully
used this import option for Dialog multi-file searches?

Thanks very much for your help,
