As an EndNote (ver 4.0) user and (instructor of our students in EndNote)
http://www.endnote.com
I'm seeking information about what happens in ScienceDirect when I click on
the "export" button and choose Export Citations in RIS format (for
Reference Manager, ProCite and EndNote).
Using Netscape ver 4.7 browser this will launch EndNote, then ask me to
open a EndNote library. From experience I have found it is best to first
create a EndNote library, then close it, in order for the filter to write
the exported ScienceDirect data to the correct EndNote library attributes.
What is actually happening here? Not a z39.50 connection file! It's like
an export + import filter all rolled into one action.
Seeking technical information on what the ScienceDirect formatted citation
export file is doing to my operating system, and the EndNote
application. This would be an advantage when I teach my students about
EndNote and ScienceDirect (Compendex).
