hello all,
when i insert a personal communication reference into a word document,
it is formatted just like a regular reference. Shouldn't it be
formatted as a personal communication, which would vary with the output
style? Usually, they're something like (Smith, Personal Communication).
But instead of that, I'm getting (Smith, 2008). Any ideas? This seems
odd.
Thanks,
Allie

I would just put the "Personal Communication" in the year, but most
often Journals don't want it to appear in the references anyway, so I
type it as I want it to appear, skipping endnote.

You are not providing enough information. A personal communication
formatting is dependent on the citation style being used.
There will be an in-text citation and a bibliographic entry. Your
chosen/expected style will determine whether it is "odd" or not.
