Two things
Author: Mary Peterson    Posted: Wed, 9 Apr 2003 10:03:37 +0930
Hello all.

I regularly run EndNote classes in the library, and every group comes up
with its set of tricky questions! Last night there were a couple that I
couldn't answer.

- If you enter data in caps, does EndNote fix it when it formats the
bibliography, or do you have to re-type the entries?

- Is it possible to have the second author listed in the Author display
column in your library as well as the first? Would be useful where the same
person is often the first author and writes on the same subject.

The output styles can only change the capitalization of the primary Title
field. If you open the output style for editing, and check
Bibliography>Title Capitalization, you will see how the output style is
configured.

This function does not work very well. For example, if you opt for Sentence
Style Capitalization, EndNote will lower-case names of places and persons.
You can stop it doing that by entering such names in the Change Case section
of your EndNote preferences, but that would be very tedious.

No, it isn't possible. But if you click on the Show Preview button at the
bottom of the library window, then whenever you click on a reference in the
library window, you can see the formatted reference just below the library
window. This will show all authors, providing that you choose an output
style which is configured to show all authors in the bibliography (e.g.
Chicago 14th A).

John answered the two question posed, but to the following question -

I would add, that instead, I show journal (as the last field) in my library
window display, which is usually enough for me to distinguish which paper is
the one I want to quote. Often, if two papers have similar subjects/titles
and the same first author and same year, one is more of a review or report
from a meeting and the other is the higher profile journal publication.
-showing the publication source is usually an easy way to tell which is
which.
