I apologize if this has been answered or is impossible, but does anyone know
how to go about getting the following results in the style template (this is
for MLA endnotes, but might be used other places):
When putting down publication information for a book that has been published
earlier than the copy being cited (useful when wanting to show original
publication date/info), my style calls for placing the multiple publication
data within the same parentheses (i.e.
(New York: Harpers, 1889; Cambridge: Harvard UP, 1999)
I have made an additional data entry for ³original publication² info, and
then I have tried to place all of this within a single pair of parentheses.
However, whenever the ³original publication² data is not present, I have
either been stuck with a roaming space at the end of repeated authors, or I
lose the initial parenthesis for the actual pub. Info.) I have tried a
couple of variations of the examples below, all to no avail. Is there any
trick Iım missing here?
Original citation, which works correctly for a single entry (*=linked
adjacent text):
> |*(City:*Publisher, Year)|
Failed attempts
Leaves initial parenthesis out of single pub. data entries:
> |*(Original Publication;*City:*Publisher, Year)|
Adds unwanted space at the end of a repeated citation:
> |*(|Original Publication;*|City: Publisher, Year|)|
OR
> | (|Original Publication;*|City: Publisher, Year|)|
Leaves initial parenthesis out and adds space:
> | (*Original Publication; City: Publisher, Year|)|
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
