With Endnote 4 there should be one called electronic source.

Yes but it doesn't have a place for the URL to appear in the reference.

There is a field for the URL in the reference type called electronic
resource; it is near the end of the record.

But the URL is not put into citation when printed. The Electronic
Resource does not use the URL in the citation.

Paul,
I suspect the problem is that the *style* you've chosen
doesn't insert the URL in the citation, probably because
EndNote thinks that style doesn't require it.
But as you can see below, a number of styles *do* insert
the URL:
In Chicago A style:
Associated Press. U.N. Ranks Quality of Life [Web page].
New York Times, June 29, 2000 [cited June 29, 2000].
Available from
http://www.nytimes.com/aponline/i/AP-UN-Rich-and-Poor.html.
In APA Submitted style:
Associated Press. (2000, June 29,). U.N. Ranks Quality of
Life, [Web page]. New York Times. Available:
http://www.nytimes.com/aponline/i/AP-UN-Rich-and-Poor.html
[2000, June 29,].
In Turabian Bibliography:
Associated Press. U.N. Ranks Quality of Life. New York
Times, June 29, 2000. Accessed June 29, 2000. Web page.
Available from
http://www.nytimes.com/aponline/i/AP-UN-Rich-and-Poor.html.
It seems that the Life Sciences styles tend to exclude the
URLs for some reason. Of course, you can always edit the
style and insert a URL field yourself.

I think you have hit it on the head, Rob.
I'll give it a try.
Thanks,
Paul
